World Wide Wisdom

Part One: Starting again

Whenever one story ends a new one begins. This is a story that began about two decades ago just after the turn of the century. There was excitement in the air as the world wide web blossomed into web 2.0. Gone were the days of dial-up modems and AoL, mySpace and mapQuest. A new model emerged that brought along with it the promise of riches and fame in the form of followers and likes, sponsors and sharing.

Social media launched the new web paradigm by offering hours upon hours of user generated content on facebook, youTube, Wikipedia, and Blogger. And it seemed to be working. People were connecting on a whole new level. Lost friends from high school now lived side by side with your current co-workers and college pals in the digital cloud.

But a dark side emerged. Suddenly your employer could see your most embarrassing moments caught on camera. The creepy stalker guy from your last job could try to locate you based on the types of info you didn't even know you were sharing. Parents were in an uproar. Social media users were astonished and tech companies pushed toward trillion dollar valuations.

Fast forward a few short years, and another new age has begun. Web3 has emerged as a swirling universe of information, artificial intelligence, and always on smart home digital devices. Advertising, block chain and TikTok took over the airwaves.

A quarter century has passed by at quantum speed. The story is about to begin again. New technologies, new interactivity, and a new paradigm will emerge to redefine political boundaries, personal beliefs, and the role of technology.

Although it is impossible to predict the future, we do know one thing for sure, the world wide web will continue to gain importance in our every day lives. Now is the time to make a choice. Will you be an innocent bystander to the future, or will you be the pilot to your own destiny?

I know my choice already. I will be on the cutting edge creating W4. See you there!
